The Ermine Street Guard is the most excellent European group in recreating military life in the Roman Early Imperial period. With 35 years of existence, this British group is one of the best in Europe.
Set up in 1972, the group recreates Roman army legionaries and auxiliary troops in the Britannia of the I Century, that is, during the Flavian dynasty. For years, they have invested thousands of hours to get to know and replicate legionaries and auxiliaries' wear and equipment, as well as artillery and military camps with great authenticity.
Results of experimental archaeology carried out by the group are edited in the "Exercitus" newsletter. The bulletin revises historical hypotheses and new findings in Roman military topics and reports about current re-enactment.
