Cultural Society of Saint Fructuós takes the name of Fructuós, bishop of Tarragona and martyr of the Christian church sentenced to death in 259 AC by Emperor Valerian. This society wants to commit to memory the way the bishop and his deacons Auguri and Eulogi were tortured in order to better understand Christian roots of Tarragona Church and its Paleochristian archaeological heritage.
Together with the Schola Cantorum and Friends of the Cathedral Orchestra this Society performs Saint Fructuós Passion. Theatrical transcription of bishop's torment was written by Andreu Muñoz Melgar. Since 1990, this Passion has been enacted in the same Roman amphitheatre in Tarragona.
Even though they are not an "authentic" re-enactment group, they have participated in the Roman festival of Tarraco Viva entertaining the Christian funerals of late Roman period. They stage the arrangement and exhibition of a dead man, funerary escort, burial and prayer.
