In the Middle Ages Castelló d'Empúries was the capital of the County of Empúries. Witnesses of the town's importance are the Royal curia, a cathedral, a Jewish Jewry and synagogue, a prison and many walls, which were undoubtedly an ideal setting for Middle Ages musicians.Sixteen years ago, against the incomparable backdrop of the Countship of Castelló d'Empúries, the Land of Minstrels Festival came to life, a multi-disciplinary festival that relives times of splendour in medieval Castelló.
The Land of the Minstrels Festival is cultural, popular and entertaining, a collective event in which all the local residents and organizations take part, giving it its unique flavour.
Some of the highlights of the programmed events are the musicians, professional actors, music shows, dance and street theatre.
